Vybz and the Bowcat
The derogatory term, “bowcat” more usually associated with men who do the licking, but also women doing the sucking. So what do we call the person who is enjoying the actions of the bowcat? Ding dong dog???
This is about the photos that have been doing the rounds of Vybz Kartel getting a blow job. See the photos here.
They’re too XXX rated for this blog.
The dancehall star, who I have to admit, I love his music, been listening to this track the most and Clarkes, recently. Vybz has been doing some pretty crazy things, his sex antics are well documented. I was talking to someone the other day about his getting his tongue pierced.
So the person I was talking to, was really hating on Kartel for having had his tongue pierced – does this indicate he’s gay? even though Kartel seems to be enjoying the role of ding dong dog?
Having interviewed the man quite a few times, I always thought he was very likeable, what I liked about him was his humour, he always makes me laugh out loud, he’s pretty clever too I reckon – definitely has the gift of the gab, a media honey. That’s a big advantage he has over Movado, who always come across as very awkward with the media. Kartel is a natural extrovert and loves the attention.
Anyway, the best thing someone said to me was, “If there was no Kartel, Jamaica would be a very boring place” love him or hate him, you have to agree with that right?
The Champs
Major sporting event in JA, attracting lots of press attention from around the world see here and part of the global highlights on BBC World Service where they are saying…
The 100th Anniversary of Jamaica’s national schools athletics Champs is taking place. BBC Sports World will come from Jamaica.
The BBC Caribbean Service and World Service Sports have pulled the expertise together to cover this event which launched Usain Bolt. We may be able to spot Usain Bolt of 2012.
So very sad to see this which reports how there have been two stabbings so far and that there is an increase in violence in schools as the pressure mounts up as the Champs draws near. I have blogged about violence in schools before here see that post.
Hush the Guns
The start of DeMarco’s track True friend goes, “
Demarco dem seh yo, yuh a deportee (haha)
Dem seh yuh come from foreign an yuh nahave nuh money
Yuh bruck like dog (haha)
Dem seh yuh a iron balloon
Yo dem seh yuh nah reach nuh weh (haha)
He may have been deported, and broke, but at least he didn’t come back as a criminal. There are many that do, from the UK these Jamaicans are sometimes put into projects that are aimed at trying to stop the cycle of crime. From the UK’s point of view, it’s about trying to stop Jamaican criminals ending up in the UK and also I think it’s a sweetener for JA to handle the problem rather than them burdening the UK prisoner population.
Whatever the motivation, it’s a good thing.
Here’s a quote from a young guy who was caught up in a cycle of crime and violence, ” it’s only when you call the shots that you can begin to hush the guns”.
So they’ve been trying to “Hush the Guns” with young guys in Tower Hill and Tower street correctional centre for the last 3 years. Has it been working?
There was a lot of money ploughed into all this, 129 million JA dollars (1.4 m US dollars) , now funding looks like it’s ooming to an end.
World Bank leading Jamaica?
The World Bank has given Jamaica 400 million US dollars to prop up the economy and reduce the debt to GDP ratio. It’s part of a four year development strategy which it’s hoped can also help farmers and reduce crime and violence.
This comes after the IMF also finalized a $1.27 billion loan for Jamaica on Feb. 4, the first time in 15 years. I have talked about Jamaica and the IMF on this blog before here.
The inter american bank has also put significant money in. All this has come after Jamaica made a $7.8 billion domestic debt
exchange in January. This means they have exchanged bonds already out there, which they repay to bond holders at interest rates of up to 28 percent, they have exchanged these for longer dated, lower yielding bonds. Read more here. It was hoped this would raise Jamaica’s credit rating, but this didn’t happen as ratings agencies deemed this whole thing a debt default. Although the ratings agencies did agree that this move would be good for Jamaica in the long run.
It’s an ambitious strategy, there’s money to play with now, let’s hope the politicians spend it wisely and that there is a real committment to stamp out corruption, so that it can actually lead to growth and stability. If this opportunity is squandered, the next generation in Jamaica will be even more screwed than it is already.
Vivian Blake is dead
The convicted drug boss and reported head of the ‘shower posse’, Vivian Blake has died. He came back to Jamaica last year after spending 8 years in a US jail for his leading role in a drugs gang which is thought to have been responsible for over a thousand murders.
I have written about him on this blog before click here
In that post, I write about Blake saying that he was afraid for his life and that he thought the politicians wanted him dead. All Jamaican newspapers are reporting that Blake died from an illness – read what they say here and here. Blake’s own lawyer says he had kidney disease and was on dialysis but he was admitted into hospital the day before his death following a heart attack.
All I would like to add is that this death is all the more relevant right now as Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke is facing an extradition order – which the Jamaican government is refusing to comply with. Read more on that here.
There are many similarities between the two don men, Blake and Dudus, both from Tivoli Gardens in Kingston (the Prime Minister’s own constituency), both high profile criminals with money, power – political influence and secrets. Dudus is the current leader of the same shower posse according to AP.
Just how is the Dudus situation going to end and will the truth about the relationship between Jamaica’s dons and politicians ever come out?
Free Buju
Every campaign must have a T-shirt and this is it for Buju Banton.
It’s got his prison number on the front. see more photos here.
Buju Banton’s people say it’s to raise money to pay for his legal defence. Read about why he’s in an American prison in this blog post here.
He’s due back in court in April. For an update click here .
Corruption at the highest level
The Americans have re-iterated their demand for the Jamaican Don man, and high profile crime lord – Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke on drug and gun charges.
They have wanted him to be extradited to face these serious criminal charges since August 2009 but the Jamaican government have been dragging their feet, some might say, burying their head in the sand, willing this request to go away.
So now – the US are strengthening their language and putting it out there by saying there is blatant corruption going on – as the Don Man Dudus has well reported ties to the ruling Jamaica Labour Party.
The US State department says,
“The high-profile suspect resides in and essentially controls the Kingston neighbourhood known as Tivoli Gardens, a key constituency for the Jamaica Labour Party,”
so all this ” raises serious questions about the Government’s commitment to combating transnational crime.
The Government of Jamaica’s ambitious anti-corruption and anti-crime legislative agendas announced in 2007 remain stalled in Parliament”. see more here.
So, the pressure to hand Dudus over is getting more difficult to ignore. The stakes are high because it shows up the JLP’s corruption for protecting a high profile crime lord. This in turn makes a bit of a mockery of one of the government’s top priorities, which is to reduce crime – how can they be serious about solving crime when they are seen to be protecting a wanted man? Their position is pretty untenable – best they just hand him over now and save some face.
